Mr. Burns: Mmm, delicious! Smithers every year you outstrip yourself in succulence.
Smithers: Thank you sir. Oh, would you like some candied yams.
Mr. Burns: Oh no, I couldn’t eat another bite. Dispose of all this. I did, however, save room for your special pumpkin pie.
Smithers: It’s cooling on the window sill sir.
– Bart vs. Thanksgiving (The Simpsons Season 2 – Episode 7)
I do realize that Smithers’ Thanksgiving Feast is actually in reference to American Thanksgiving and this weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving but the meal concept is basically the same. I was debating on whether this qualified as more of an I Want It entry since, let’s be realistic, I would eat pretty much everything at this meal. Here is what is on the menu for Smithers’ Thanksgiving Feast:
- Candied Yams
- Bowl of Green Stuff
- Five Pies (including the aforementioned Pumpkin Pie)
- Corn on the Cob
- Chicken Drumsticks
- Roast Ham
Now, Mr. Burns is apparently impressed by this spread, but I am a bit confused. I mean, what kind of Thanksgiving meal includes a full turkey AND chicken drumsticks? I’m not as concerned about the ham since two proteins is acceptable but two poultry items seems a bit much. This meal also includes corn on the cob. That is a summer food and doesn’t usually show up on the Thanksgiving table, particularly in late November.
So I’m Not Making Smithers’ Thanksgiving Feast for two reasons: it would be really expensive and the menu is totally bizarre. I’m pretty traditional with my Thanksgiving menu, this year it’s a turkey made entirely out of tofu, gluten and curds. Mmm, curds.
