Bart: Alright, three-eyed fish!
Marge: Can I have your plate, Mr. Burns?
– Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish (The Simpsons Season 2- Episode 04)
As the US election heats up, candidates might start to think that crazy stunts like eating dinner at a low-level employee’s house seems like a good idea. Obviously this plan did not end up working out very well for Mr. Burns. But the real loser of this political stunt isn’t Burns, its Blinky the fish. Burns just lost the election but poor Blinky lost his life! Martyred for a cause he didn’t understand and then unceremoniously spat on the floor for all to gawk at in horror. As Burns’ Adviser said: “Ruined before it hit the ground.”
Despite my sadness at Blinky’s untimely death, I know that Marge was working towards what she felt was the greater good. What’s a fish’s life in comparison to keeping an unscrupulous person out of office? There is so much to love about how Marge prepared the Blinky fish recipe from the simple lemon wedge on the plate to the fact that she serves Mr. Burns the front face of Blinky to eat.
Interestingly, a three-eyed fish was found near a nuclear power plant in Argentina a few years ago, so technically I could make this dish. But I’m not really keen on sitting by the banks of a nuclear power plant with a fishing rod and so I’m Not Making That.
