I Want It! Uter’s Candy

Sometimes there are food and drink products that exist in The Simpsons universe that I simply cannot buy or reproduce. Thus, I present to you: I Want It! An Eats Like A Duck feature where I yearn to breathe free…I mean yearn for products that don’t or can’t currently exist.

Milhouse: Uh, I think I’m gonna go sit, uh w-with that foreign exchange student.
Uter: Oh, guten Tag. Would you care for a bite of my Vengelerstrasse bar? I also have a bag of marzipan JoyJoys!

Two Halloweens in a row featuring Uter prominently! This boy is apparently my go-to subject when it comes to late October posts.

I’m something of a Simpson’s Trivia regular and at the most recent Halloween themed event one of the questions asked for the names of Uter’s Candy in Treehouse of Horror IV. I was kicking myself for not knowing the answer because I had been planning on making an “I Want It” post about this very candy! If I had just got my lazy butt in gear I could have researched the candy and known the answer to the question. Let this be a lesson to you, ignore your friends and family and instead focus on your obscure blogging hobby that in no way generates money so you can win a trivia contest that results in no cash or prizes.

I don’t speak German, so I’m not sure if there are hidden joke in Uter’s Candy that I missed. Any food that comes “Mit Iodine” seems delicious even if Bart doesn’t seem overly impressed by it:

  • Vengelerstrasse Bar
  • Marzipan JoyJoys
  • Flavor Wax

Both marzipan and flavored wax are real candies; it’s only the Vengelerstrasse Bar that confuses me. What does it mean? Is it some dirty German word that I’m not familiar with? My googling only brought up a bunch of links to this Simpsons quote, so I’m left to wonder. Either way…

  1. Apparently vengelerstrasse translates to Butterfinger the chocolate peanut thingy the Simpsons were promoting early in its run.

    1. If that’s true they did a terrible job of animating it since Butterfinger are chocolate and, I believe, not usually purple. Either way, your comment is greatly appreciated and as a thank you, I will buy you one Butterfinger.

      1. i don’t think this is true, straße or strasse means street and i don’t recognize the first part as any german word
