Homer: Those aren’t our regular donuts. They’re huge! With crazy toppings! Gummy worms! Churro chunks! Russian nesting donut! I gotta eat the rest! They’re gone! Where did these Devil Donuts come from?
Lenny: I don’t know. The guy who gives the sexual harassment seminars brought them in.
– The Day the Earth Stood Cool (The Simpsons Season 24- Episode 7)
Happy National Donut Day! In honor of this special day I’m featuring that hipster donut cart from that hipster episode of The Simpsons. Devil Donuts is an obvious play on Voodoo Doughnuts which hails from the epicenter of hipster-ism: Portloand, Oregon. The items on the Devil Donuts menu include…
Churro Chunk Donut, Gummy Worm Donut, Sprinkle Donut and Maple Bacon Donut:
Having actually gone to Voodoo Doughnuts, if you really want to eat “weird, experimental donuts” then just keep in mind that you will have to wait for those donuts. Possibly for an hour or more depending on the time of day. Is a donut really worth an hour of your time? Here’s the Maple Bacon Donut that I got from Voodoo Doughnuts:
The glaze tasted like maple. The bacon was real, albeit incredibly crispy and overdone. Therefore, the donut lived up to it’s name. But this was, without a doubt, not worth an hour of waiting. If you have visited Voodoo Doughnuts and disagree I would love to hear why and what you ordered. I’m sure to be back in Portland one day and I rarely say no to unhealthy food, so give me your suggestions!
